Metal Stamping Presses
Countless manufacturers are involved in producing something that requires stamped metal parts. Because this process is so widely used, the demand for metal stamping equipment never lets up, and many companies are, at any moment, hunting for used equipment to meet their needs.
Metal stamping equipment is used for working certain kinds of metals; commonly, aluminum and steel of various types are processed on stamping equipment, but copper, zinc, titanium, and nickel are also suitable for processing on metal stamping presses. A metal should not be too hard because then the stamping equipment is unable to do its job effectively. You're looking for a malleable substance with high ductility (which means being able to sustain forced changes in shape without shattering).
Stamping presses for metal are diverse in their capabilities, and can perform blanking, forming, piercing, and drawing operations; a piece of metal is manipulated by the press with a specially designed tool to achieve the desired end product. A metal stamping press applies pressure to a workpiece placed in between two dies which are attached to a ram and to a stationary bolster. When the press is put to work, the ram is operated vertically toward the non-moving bolster and the workpiece in between is cut, pressed, or otherwise shaped according to the operator's directions.
In many industries, metal stamping presses have partially or entirely replaced other processes for working metal, such as die casting, machining, and forging. The short explanation for this is that metal stamping presses can be exponentially more efficient than these older processes. But it's also that metal stamping equipment readily takes to newer technologies such as automation; this means less concern about staffing complications and, often, a much higher degree of sophistication in the stamped product. Overall production costs are reduced by using a metal stamping press.
